About

Hi, my name is Doug Boothey, and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I am a budding social researcher interested in class, climate change, social justice, sociology and social work. I am a degree-qualified social worker and hold an Honours degree in sociology as part of my Bachelor of Arts.

I enjoy researching new topics and am particularly interested in the social aspects of life and climate change. The latter is due to the spectacular nature of this phenomenon and how governments across the globe are resisting enacting concrete change that will benefit current and future generations and the environment.

In 2024, I began a PhD at Charles Darwin University, within the Arts and Society Department, examining the intersection of class and climate change in Australia, and how class influences and shapes people’s responses to climate change. Unfortunately, changes occurred, and my PhD was downgraded to a Master of Research, MRes. Other changes included examining climate adaptation through the lens of environmental sociology, particularly the risk society perspective.

In 2023, I finished an Honours degree in sociology at Flinders University. This meant revisiting and extending my research and study, last undertaken in 1998.

Since completing my BA, I have continued to study and work as a social worker in various fields. I have obtained two Master’s degrees in social work, one of which was a Research Master’s, and hold a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health.

However, sociology was and has always been my predominant academic joy. And I am glad that I went back to study Honour’s and now a PhD in the world of Sociology and Cultural Studies.

I will be finishing my current MRes at Charles Darwin University in 2026. My final submission date is in early November 2026.

After completing my MRes, I plan to convert the thesis into a small monograph and attempt to get it published by an academic publisher.

Once the MRes is submitted, I will attempt to undertake a PhD again. I have plans in mind and have a supervisor who is interested in my topic. This is great news.
